As some of you may know my little girl was born 5 weeks premature! She was transferred from Shrewsbury NICU to Alder Hey at 3 days old as she was deteriorating. She was already on a breathing machine but her stomach was distended and her blood sugars were dropping rapidly.
So she was transferred to Alder Hey by a high dependency ambulance and was admitted to intensive care. It was decided that they would operate the next morning. The next morning came and they said that after looking at x-rays and scans she needed an operation straight away so I had to sign to say that I was happy for them to do this but also with a massive risk of them loosing her. The operation was due to take 2 hours and after a long 5 hour wait Lexie-Mai came back to us.
We were told that they had lost her twice but she was a true fighter! They had took biopsy’s of her bowel and she now had a stoma, once the biopsy’s came back we would have a better idea of what we were dealing with. The next few days were a struggle but on day 7 she started to breathe on her own and was transferred to NICU. The staff on NICU were amazing! Day by day she got better and stronger after a long 4 weeks she was finally able to go home!
When she was four months old, she had another operation to remove her stoma and now at the age of 3 years, she is full of life and attitude and she has been discharged from Alder Hey! If it wasn’t for the staff and equipment at Alder Hey I wouldn’t have the privilege of watching Lexie-Mai grow up into the amazing little girl she is!
So, Lauren has crazily agreed to do a skydive with me in
July to raise as much money as we can to say a massive thank you to the Hospital! We are both absolutely terrified but I know it will be no where near as terrifying as everything we went through!
