In November 2021 my dad lost his life to lung cancer. He was diagnosed in early July 2021 and although he knew that this was going to be a battle that he could never win, he fought the effects of the cancer with the strength that we had always seen him display.

When he could no longer muster the energy to fight back, the Macmillan nurses, the district nurses and the palliative care team mobilised to ensure that his last days were as comfortable and dignified as they could be. Those last four days with my dad were the hardest of my life, but the Macmillan nurses and district nurses were amazing and practically moved in with us and alongside the care for my dad they made sure that me, my mum and my brother had all the support we needed to carry out my dads wishes and care for him at home until he passed away. 

My brother, cousin  and I wanted to give something back so last year we completed the Macmillan half marathon Mighty Hike. We (stupidly) decided this wasn't enough of a challenge so this year will be completing the full Macmillan Mighty Hike which is a 29 mile hike through the very hilly Peak District. 

Macmillan is run on donations and their help to patients and their families is invaluable. If we can raise enough money to help at least one person/family receive the support that we did then a hike in memory of my dad through the hills of the Peak District will be well worth it.
