Story
In memory of my mother - the legend Kayo Hennessey - I am raising funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK to help with research efforts to enable early diagnosis of this disease and improve survival rates.
Just a month before Mum developed symptoms, she was going on holidays, playing tennis, enjoying life. It's unbelievable that weeks later, she would be diagnosed with and eventually succumb to pancreatic cancer.
Before Mum's diagnosis I had no knowledge of pancreatic cancer. I was shocked to learn that it has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers and around 80% of pancreatic cancer patients are not diagnosed until the cancer is at an advanced stage - as was the case with Mum. At this late stage surgery is usually not possible and this is the only known treatment that has the potential to cure the disease.
In July 2022 shortly after Mum was admitted to hospital, I called up Pancreatic Cancer UK for information and advice. The nurse I spoke to was incredibly kind and supportive, answering my questions and speaking to me at length about the procedures Mum would be having. The information they gave me was invaluable, particularly when it came to speaking with the medical teams at the hospital and understanding which questions to ask.
Thank you for visiting this JustGiving page. I appreciate anything you may be able to contribute to help with raising funds for or spreading awareness of the great work that Pancreatic Cancer UK is doing.
