Keep Josh Moving (SDR Appeal)

Keep Josh Moving (SDR Appeal) · 6 January 2016
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Joshua (aka Joshy) and I am 11 years old. I was born premature and because of this I have a form of brain injury called Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy. At 3 years old I was also diagnosed with autism.
My cerebral palsy causes me to have very painful muscle tightness in my legs which is getting increasingly worse despite injections and lots of physiotherapy.
At the moment I can crawl and take some steps with a walking frame but soon my legs will be so tight that I will only be able to move around with a wheelchair.
To help me stay active and mobile, neurosurgeons have reccommended me for an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR - http://www.gosh.nhs.uk/medical-information/procedures-and-treatments/selective-dorsal-rhizotomy)
SDR will release the stiffness in my legs and give me permanent flat feet. This will help me sit and help my standing and walking as well as take away a lot of pain. The operation has a 100% success rate and Doctors expect my mobility will improve with a course of intense specialist physiotherapy, which will dramatically improve my life and enable me to follow my dreams.
Anyone interested in helping the Keep Joshy Moving Appeal is asked to contact Caudwell Children on 01782 600114 or to donate online visit www.justgiving.com/keepjoshmoving
Important note to donors: As long as Joshua requires the funds raised to pay for SDR treatment and post-operative rehabilitation, Caudwell Children will manage all payments of funds for the family. A percentage of all funds raised and any funds Joshua no longer requires will be used to provide similar donations to sick and disabled children living within the UK through the charity, Caudwell Children.
