Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

In 2016 I challenged myself to complete 10 laps of UK Tough Mudders. I managed to do this, and in doing so fell in love with the community that is Tough Mudder. After running another 15 events in 2017, in 2018 I am pushing myself to enter World's Toughest Mudder in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) and complete 12 laps within the 24 hour time limit.

World's Toughest Mudder is one of the most challenging obstacle courses in the world. It is a 24 hour timed event where competitors attempt to complete as many laps of the 5 mile circuit as they can within those 24 hours. The circuit contains plenty of obstacles from the usual Tough Mudder repertoire as well as specially modified versions to make them tougher. Not only that, but failing to complete an obstacle, or choosing to complete easier versions of certain obstacles, incur penalties such as mile-long penalty loops.

My challenge is to complete 12 laps within the time limit, running a minimum of 60 miles in the process.

Why am I doing this for Muscular Dystrophy UK? A few years ago I was diagnosed with a degenerative condition called Type 2 Myotonic Dystrophy following the confirmation of my father suffering the same condition. Type 2 Myotonic Dystrophy (also called Proximal Myotonic Myopathy) causes minor symptoms compared to Type 1, and is by no means as serious a condition as many other types of Muscular Dystrophy, which is why I am trying to raise money for the charity as a whole to support people who suffer from mine and similar conditions, as well as helping fund research into treatments, and cures for such diseases.

The symptoms of my disease include an elevated risk of heart disease, degeneration of skeletal muscles, and myotonia. Myotonia is a condition where certain muscle groups don't relax properly. For example, I get this symptom most frequently in my legs.

Once again, thank you for visiting my page and if you can, thank you so much for donating.
