Story
Hello!
Following last years very successful fundraising for Cancer Research UK in memory of my Gran, Ina Murray herself a cancer sufferer, im participating in the same 2 events again this year. Ride London, a 100 mile cycle around the Olympic road race course and Pedal for Scotland Glasgow to Edinburgh. This time I’m looking to raise some money for Parkinson’s UK, in memory of my late Grandpa.
Parkinson's disease is a brain disease which will start to effect many of us as the live expectancy increases. In hindsight the symptoms started for my Grandpa in his 50s. He was on a variety of medicines which could only do so much, some maintained/increase brain function or increased mobility. Its was getting the right balance of meds to allow the best standard of living. Having spent so much time caring for him, the man I will always remember is the gentleman, the intellectual, educator and handy man. He would give up so much of his time to help so many. Even a trip to Greenock for ice cream there would often be a former pupil recognising him stopping to say hello, as he spent many years teaching in the area.
It is somewhat fitting the im doing these bike rides as we spent many a day on the cycle tracks, taking the bike with his grandchildren in the caravan or hostel as well as hiking. Who knows I might pull out the waterproof helmet cover he used to wear which he had made out of an old waterproof jacket, but only once he was clear of his street. My Gran didn't want the neighbours or minister seeing him in it!
So whatever you can donate is appreciated, if you or your company would like to advertise on my cycle to please get in contact with me. A logo with website or telephone number.
Thank you.
