Football For Cancer 21 · 1 April 2021 to 1 January 2022 ·
I am immensely proud to be involved with this charity, and to be a lacing up my boots to become part of the action for the first time this year, representing Team Figgins.
Last year, even against the backdrop of COVID-19, Team Figgins raised nearly £6000 on JustGiving alone and we are determined to exceed that total this year!
Having, like so many, had direct experience of losing family members and friends to cancer, and seeing family and friends survive and beat cancer, along with the fantastic support that is available I am passionate to continue to raise awareness and funds where I can. I will be wearing no.44 on my shirt, the age my Uncle Pete was when he passed away.
In addition to the annual football tournament, I am undertaking a 12 hour endurance challenge on 26th June. Running, walking or crawling laps of the local area with fellow FFC newbie and AFC Portchester Vets teammate Pete Sanderson to boost awareness and funds for FFC. I like so many others have had friends and family affected over the years, and I have seen first-hand how the last 18 months has impacted on those living with cancer. I have also seen the incredible support services do wonderful work with those people and I want to do all I can to find additional funds for those much-needed services. Starting at 7am and finishing at 7pm we will be running, walking and crawling my way round laps of my local area, and we have many friends and family coming to wave, make a family day of it and some might even run a motivational lap with us!

Football for Cancer was created in 2008, since then it has grown from a single tournament, to a Charity that has raised over One Million pounds for local Cancer charities and people. In 2019 we updated our name to Friends Fighting Cancer. This was to show that we have grown from just a football tournament into something much bigger
We support local families who are going through one of the toughest times in their lives. As a local charity we are able to act fast and can provide much needed funds via the Grant Scheme, sometimes in less than 24 hours. We provide directly to families to try and alleviate the financial burden that coping with this disease can cause. We also make regular donations to local and national Cancer charities working in our community.
Charities pay a small fee for our service. Learn more about fees
