At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

My Dad was Diagnosed with Alzheimer's  and my Father in Law Arthur already had it, however that does not prepare you for the words of the Doctor. " Your Father has Alzheimer's"

You watch over time the person you have known all your life disappear in front of you, it is a cruel disease. And you are helpless. The advert on TV is so true, there is NO CURE, NO PREVENTION and NO WAY OF SLOWING THE PROGRESSION DOWN.

I support the society because I was having a particularly bad day, just after Dad had been diagnosed, and then my phone rang and a voice said " hello my name is Paul from the Alzheimer's Society, how can I help" It was like a weight was lifted and I learnt so much at our subsequent meeting and I will always be grateful,

Sadly dad died on June 10th,  a combination of Alzheimers and Parkinsons took its toll on Dad and now his suffering is over. Everyone told us how nice he was to care for and in all that time he did not complain once. That was so true of him. At his funeral my sister read the parable of the good Samaritan, and that summed up the man I knew as Dad.

I decided to get fit and lose weight, I needed a challenge so decided I should just do something that will give me the motivation that I need. I joined Puregym in Newcastle,  and I now have a personal trainer Marc who has been amazingly patient, in the challenge of getting me to that start line in September, I have pledged to raise  a minimum of £375 for the society, hopefully I will beat that with the support of friends, family, customers and suppliers at work.

Fantastic finish with Gift Aid in excess of £2375, which I am absolutely gobsmacked at. Thank you all so very much.
