We support The Rifles & its antecedent regiments, including via The Rifles Benevolent Trust, charity No: 1119071, which incorporates Care for Casualties & the Always a Rifleman Programme. Together the Trusts support all serving Riflemen & veterans, with the AARP meeting mental health needs.

Story

Since 2007,  The Rifles have suffered  more casualties than any other regiment with  54 Killed in Action and 290 seriously wounded. Most have been injured by IEDs which cause complex multiple trauma. Some injuries are not obvious now – evidence shows that psychological problems will develop in ex soldiers years after their service ends. Within the next 3 years all our battalions can expect to deploy once again on operations in Afghanistan.

The bottom line is that our Riflemen have risked their lives and bodies on our behalf and will do so again. We need to do everything we can to support them and to show our appreciation for their sacrifices.

Care for Casualties is an appeal that gives the severely wounded, their families and the families of the fallen of The Rifles the support, the inspiration and the means to rebuild their lives and make the best of their futures.

"This years walk is a follow up to last years South Shields to Edinburgh walk, but this time sponsorship and donations is for the RIFLES CARE FOR CASUALTIES APPEAL. This is a 50 mile walk from Sunderland to Catterick Garrison, We will be setting off from Sunderland 1 minute past midnight Thursday 21st July, walking throughout the night and all day Thursday covering about 40 miles by early evening, then spend the night as guests of the British Army which will enable us to arrive at Vimmy Barracks for midday Friday to correspond with the Rifles pass off parade.
