I  am walking from Barnsley to Pontefract on Friday 5th July alongside many others to raise money in memory of Tonk Clarkson and Leah Pearson the money raised will  go to the Tonk Clarkson Fund Brain Tumour Charity supporter group, this was set up in my brother in laws memory by my sister kerry in 2012 so far with all the hard work and support the fund has raised over £6,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity and will continue to raise more with fundraising events throughout the year..... Tonk was 37 years old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in December 2011 after experiencing severe headaches and episodes of vomiting, a biopsy on 3rd january 2012 proved the tumour was cancerous and after 6 weeks of tests a full diagnosis was given he had a rare agressive cancerous tumour a (choroid plexus carcinoma) , due to insufficient research into this type of tumour doctors carried out 2 cycles intensive chemotherapy by iv drip for 10 hours a day 5 days a week with a 3 week break, during this time Tonk suffered from neutropeanic sepsis and had 4 epileptic fits where he was given full life support for days, after 3 weeks he showed signs of improvement and finally was weaned off the ventilator, only days after to find he had 2 more tumours and was given weeks to live. he passed away 3 week and 6 days later  on 6th june 2012 at home with his family just 5 months from finding the tumour. Our hearts were broken and by raising this money it gives us all great comfort with the hope one day to find a cure.

This year 2013 has also been a heartbreaking time for our Family with another blow, our cousin Leah Pearson  age 18 had also been diagnosed with an agressive cancerous Brain Tumour, Leah was such an inspiration to other cancer sufferers and never let it get her down, even though the tumour had taken her independence due to weakness in one side she continued to smile and went through 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy with a four week break after. Just a few days after finishing her 6 week cycle she suffered numerous epileptic fits and passed away in hospital on 2nd june 2013. We cannot let Brain Tumours take any more of our loved ones please join us and show your support and help reseachers find the cures we so desperately need many thanks for reading xxxxx
