Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I have joined a team of nationwide Wobbleberries to push ourselves out of our comfort zone's and compete at a British Eventing event by Autumn 2017.  The idea of the team (and behind the name) is for horse rider who are out of pony club age and have confidence issues where the thought leaving the ground (jumping) leave them feeling nauseous and terrified.

The event will be at the minimum height for British Eventing at 80cm.  British Eventing consists of a Dressage test (we have never done this), show jumping (I prefer this as the poles fall down if you hit them) and cross country (nothing falls down apart from me).  A lot of work and support will be involved in making sure both Kizzy (pony) and I are fit and able to safely complete this challenge.  For Kizzy this will be lots of lessons and fitness work as well as making sure she has a balanced diet in line with her workload.  I will also have to get myself properly fit so best get those running shoes out.

Now I'm sure some of you will be thinking "Im sure I've seen pictures of Kelly jumping her pony", well yes you have, and whilst we look good in the photo's I'm normally bricking it and the pony can be somewhat unpredictable and hard work.  We are currently jumping around 60cm at local level without much consistency with lots of stops, handbrake turns and hitting the deck.

So why is this a challenge its only an extra 20cm right?  Well yes, but it's also another 20cm wide and on My Little Pony at only 13.3hh (139.7cm to the top of her back) the jumps are up to the top of her legs and carrying an adult we possibly couldn't make it harder for ourselves.

Also my confidence issues don't really stem from actually jumping, its more a fear of falling.  When I was 9 I was very unlucky to fall from my pony and was dragged the length of the arena underneath my pony resulting in a broken femur with several months in hospital, wheelchair and crutches.  It has taken me many, many years to get my confidence just riding which I have only really overcome in the last 5 years, although still have the odd wobbly moment.  My pony and I have undertaken many training sessions this year and we are making progress and my instructor is confident we can achieve this goal.

So what is Hannah's Willbery Wonder Pony.  Its a charity that was set up by Hannah who at the age of 17 was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer.  It was Hannah's dream to compete at the top of the sport and very sadly this will never be.  Hannah sadly passed away in August this year (2016) but leaving a legacy to raise money for #kickingcancersbutt.
