Story
Hi. Thanks for visiting my page. Here's a bit more information about my cancer.
It's bladder cancer. In May 2021, when I was preparing for a long distance walk, I passed a blood clot in my urine. I had a new rucksack I'd been getting used to and got a bit dehydrated so, as it only happened once, I let it go. Roll on to September and it happened again. Yes, nearly 4 months between incidents. This time I thought I'd better get it checked, and in October, I was formally diagnosed with multiple malignant tumours. Since then the tumours have been removed and I've been given treatment options. The cancer was found to be aggressive with a high risk of recurrence so I've elected to have a Radical Cystectomy. That means removing the bladder along with some adjacent organs and tissues. The surgery is happening on the 14th of March.
ADVICE (with the benefit of hindsight): if you notice blood in your urine, get it checked the first time!
As many do in this situation, I've been up close and personal with my mortality and felt the end might be imminent. There's actually a very good chance though that the prognosis will be better than that. That'll be much clearer when my bits are examined after surgery and I'll update this page when I've got some news.
Meanwhile, this is major surgery and recovery will take some effort and a reasonable amount of time. With over 3 months between surgery and the walk, I should get there. It would really help me focus though if we can smash the donation target on this page and I'll be really grateful for any help you can give. Just click on the donation button to give what you can.
Many thanks
Ken
