Donating to Ocean Generation

Kene Partners is raising money for Ocean Generation

Donating to Ocean Generation · 25 March 2021

We tackle Ocean threats by turning Ocean Science into understandable, practical tools; engaging people through film and popular culture; and running engagement programmes for youth. As the first generation to deeply understand Ocean issues, we’re also the last generation who can stop them.

Story

We need Oxygen to survive. Scientists estimate that around 50-80% of all of the Oxygen produced on Earth comes from the ocean and more specifically, from marine plants.

Hence, the ocean is one of mankind's livelihoods and if the ocean and marine plants go – we go.

On top of the estimated 150 million metric tons of plastic that currently circulate our oceans,  an additional 8 million metric tons of plastic enters into our marine environment each year.

This plastic carries bacteria and blocks sunlight from marine plants reducing their ability to photosynthesise and produce oxygen. In tandem, this plastic also increases the likelihood of the marine plants becoming diseased.

In addition to this, through entanglement, ingestion and suffocation, plastic waste kills around 100 million marine animals per annum.

It is as a result of these startling statistics that Ocean Generation is one of Kene Partners' chosen charities for 2021.

By supporting Ocean Generation, we are helping them turn Ocean science into understandable and practical tools that people can use in their everyday lives, raise awareness of the vital role that the Ocean plays in supporting our world and, in addition, we are supporting the charity in the work that they do with communities, businesses and policymakers to create the conditions for Ocean sustainability.

With plastics set to outnumber fish by 2050, we must act now to save our oceans - all donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
