Our Story

The Kenya Kesho Trust manages and funds the school, and is a charity operating in the coast region, Kwale County since 2006. The Trust is registered as a Charity with the Kenya Revenue Authority, in The Netherlands with the Chamber of Commerce and in the UK with the Charity Commission of England and Wales.

The Trust saw a need to construct a modern school within Mshiu Village that would encourage more girls to be enrolled into school – at least at a primary level.  Built on a five and a half acre land, The Kenya Kesho School for Girls (KKS4G) was opened on 23rd September 2019, with the aim to offer these young girls a unique opportunity to be better educated, to be better informed, to be better prepared for secondary school andto be better prepared for life outside the village and the future.

The Big Challenges

The Kwale County Government statistics on education indicate, “The female literacy levels stands at 47.4 % against 66.6 % for the male.” In the region where the school is based, 91% of all girls do not finish their entire school education due to early pregnancy, childhood marriage, illness, gender-based violence and poverty, with girls as young as 12 years old being involved in transactional sex and the subsequent complications of sexually transmitted disease (STDs) – we have personally encountered this challenge at our school. This needs to change.

Our Solution

The Kenya Kesho School for Girls has created new educational opportunities and dimensions that a school can offer to girls who thought they would never make it to the end of primary education and could only dream of continuing to high school;including vocational skills of sewing and farming - opportunities that will enhance development and success for the girls in our area - both those enrolled presently and for those to be enrolled in the future.  In addition, parental involvement in their childs education is strongly encouraged for all children enrolled at the school, further striving to ‘”Educate to Eradicate Poverty”. Kenya Kesho Girls become change makers by working towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth)
