Many of us don’t always appreciate the things we have and how easy it is to access a simple eye test and purchase a pair of glasses. Vision Aid Overseas is an international charity dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eye care in developing countries.
In May 2017, I will be travelling to Sierra Leone (West Africa) with a team of six and will be visiting remote towns and villages to provide a large number of locals with eye care. We will also be setting up a laboratory to glaze the spectacles whilst we are there and give locals the skills to run this inbetween assignments, ultimately giving them a trade for the future.
In Sierra Leone eye care services are out of reach by a majority of the population. Having a pair of glasses or getting medical attention will help people get an education, a job and care better for their families. There are 670 million people (10% of the worlds population) who have poor vision due to a lack of glasses.  

Just £5 can provide an eye examination and a pair of glasses
£10 can pay for the raw materials needed to manufacture 3 pairs of glasses 
£22 can pay for a training day that will provide an eye care worker skills needed to provide a service that will help their community all year round.
