Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for Parkinson's UK, a charity which supports people living with Parkinson's and also funds research into treatments and the elusive cure.
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition affecting around 145,000 people in the UK and it's the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. Late stage Parkinson's leaves those affected with difficulty eating, sleeping, walking and talking.
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019, the fourth woman in four generations of my family to be affected by this cruel disease. I am planning to walk 100 miles in 28 days to raise money for Parkinson's UK. This will provide help to people living with Parkinson's now and also provide funding to hopefully find a cure to prevent future generations from having to go through the physical and emotional struggles that I know only too well come from this diagnosis, both for the person diagnosed and their friends and family.
My training for the walk has so far involved leaving the house before 6am to walk before work (it turns out the street lamps only come on at 6.....), dragging myself away from my desk to walk at lunch time (my colleagues will know how much will power and determination this takes) and rushing out after my evening meal to get some miles in before joining my evening Jazzercise classes 3 nights a week. Along with some long leisurely weekend walks (also alongside Jazzercise) I have managed 12-13 miles per week so far but from Monday 29th March I will be stepping this up to 25 miles per week which is going to be a considerable challenge around a full time job and the 5 or so Jazzercise classes per week which help me fight my symptoms.
I know many people are struggling at this difficult time but if you can spare any amount of money, however small, to help me reach my goal, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Kerry
