Story

In memory of my brother, Scott Everett.

People always ask what my wrist band supports and why I wear it, here’s why.......

As you read through the next few sentences, sit still. Imagine you’re not able to lift your hand to scratch an itch. You’re not able to pick up a glass of water that’s next to you, and you’re not able to ask for help because you’ve lost the ability to speak, swallow, and eventually breathe.

This is the reality of people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Which is a neurological, degenerative, terminal illness.

This was the reality for my brother who was diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy (MND that starts in the upper body) in March 2017. Scott’s disease progressed very quickly over the last year to where he required 24/7 care. He was 48 years old when he passed away suddenly on 19th July 2019, leaving his wife Catherine and their 2 young daughters (Anna, 7 years old and Evie, 4 years old).

Every day is a challenge for anyone who has been diagnosed with MND and for their family. The emotional, physical and financial stresses are immense and this is why I have decided to take on the Great South Run in October this year to support and raise much needed funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association who do a fantastic job helping families, raising awareness and investing in much needed research to find a cure.

David Niven’s last gesture before succumbing to MND in 1983 was a thumbs up 👍

I hope you’ll be able to give me your ‘thumbs up’ and show your support as donations, no matter how small, will be extremely appreciated. It would also be great if you would be able to show your support by sharing my fundraising page.

Thank you so much, now I’m off for a training run 🏃‍♀️ 👍 because #Theresnofinishlinetillacureisfound 💙🧡
