This month is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month its for this reason that Evie and I are taking on this challenge. I will be running 50 miles this month and Evie will be doing a 10 mile bike ride. Please support us if you can every little helps.
Here's our story
I remember receiving the phone call from my sister and brother in law to tell me they were expecting a baby. I screamed with joy down the phone like any big sister would. I was so excited for them and I couldn't wait to be an Auntie again!! Prior to this my sister had two previous miscarriages which had bought them both a lot of heartache and anxiety but determined as ever they found the strength to support each other and keep trying. In 2014 they celebrated the birth of her first daughter.
So now we are two years down the line with a little girl who had grown their family and when they told me they were expecting again I had no reason to be worried. Lots of ladies have miscarriages and there was no way anything could happen again my sister and brother in law had had their fair share surely! When the 12 week scan came around we were all apprehensive but thought everything would be fine. However at the scan they were told the baby's bladder was enlarged and they would be referred to Birmingham Women's Hospital. They attended the hospital in Birmingham for a scan three days later and were told the baby's bladder had gone back to normal size and we all breathed a sigh of relief. They said they would monitor the baby's kidneys. More scans showed that the baby was growing fine and everything looked normal. I relaxed knowing that everything was being monitored and it all seemed OK.
At 28 weeks they went for another scan and it was at this point they were told there was a problem with the baby's heart and brain. My sister said it was at this point she knew she wouldn't be taking her baby home.
After more scans and tests at 30 weeks they were told their baby boy had a cyst filling one of the ventral's of his brain a discrepancy in his heart chamber, an extra digit on his hands and would be blind. These conditions were all liked to Patau's Syndrome. Their world fell apart. So did mine; How could this be happening, what could I do; how could I protect my baby sister, why are they having to go through this heartache, haven't they been through enough. My heart was broken.
On 7/12/2016 my beautiful Nephew Oscar William Taylor was born sleeping. No pain no suffering just beautifully perfect. My Sister and Brother in Law selfless as ever let us as a family share this special moment with them. I held that little boy in my arms knowing that he may only be tiny but that he had an impact on my family like no other little man could.
The Lily Mae Foundation supported my family through a difficult time and now its my time to give something back. Please support this fantastic local charity who never forget a baby born sleeping and help so many families in a situation they never think they will have to face.
