Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I would really appreciate your support.
BrightPIP has been working hard to reach very vulnerable babies and their families for over 7 years. We reach out to families with complex circumstances such as domestic abuse, living in poverty, a traumatic birth or post natal anxiety and depression. These things make parenting and bonding with a baby so much harder, maybe impossible.
Our vision is simple, to change the future of mental health one baby at time. It's estimated we are reaching only 1/4 of families who need help. We want every vulnerable baby and their family to have free access to parent infant therapeutic support.
My story started 17 years ago when I thought I could handle anything! That was before becoming a mum for the first time. It turned out parenting was overwhelming and seemed to wreck the person I thought I was - not to mention the sleep deprivation! In short it was a massive test on my mental health. I struggled with feeling so anxious and unsure that it was hard to understand and be sensitive to my baby. I was lucky to have supportive friends and family.
Then as a Clinical Psychologist working with parents with more stress and far less support I thought 'how on earth do we expect new parents to cope!?' I founded BrightPIP because I have utmost compassion and respect for young families. Parenting is pretty much the most important and influential job we can ever do - and also the toughest. We know through neuroscience that the foundation for a child's social and emotional well-being is formed before birth and in the first few years of life.
Running this 10k is a daunting challenge but every puffing step of it is worth it if we can reach a family who would otherwise be isolated and struggling. All funds raised are going directly to help families who are most vulnerable in our local Brighton and Hove community.
Your donation will enable our clinicians to provide one to one therapy and groups (such as Mellow Bumps, Video Guidance or talking therapy) in pregnancy and for parents and their babies up to age 3.
