Mount Kenya Charity Trek - The Great Gig in the Sky
(Debs n Kes do Kenya)
Welcome to our fundraising page. We decided to have a joint one as we have mutual friends and don’t expect people to give twice – aren’t we generous?
In September we will be climbing a mountain. This isn’t a metaphor for life, we really will be scaling dizzying heights of 17,000 feet. Are we mad? Quite possibly.
We’ve seen some gigs in our time but this surely must be the most extreme length to see one!
When we reach the top of Lenana Point there’ll be a gig with a group of musicians that are coming along too. Apparently you’ll be able to watch it all via a web cam.
We’ll be raising much-needed funds for Trekstock, a charity (in partnership with Cancer Research UK) that supports young people with cancer.
All profits will fund the lifesaving research for the specific types of cancer that affect children and teenagers.
We’ve been supporting the charity for a while now but thought it was about time we did a little bit more than donate every month to sit on our backsides laughing at comedians, hosted by our good friend James Redmond who you may know from Hollyoaks & Casualty but did you know he made the transition to stand-up comedian? He’s actually rather good!
So… training has begun and despite our combined health issues of one dodgy knee, asthma and one of us hating any form of uphill gradient walking, we’re armed with a fierce determination, which will no doubt be boosted when the sponsorship comes in.
We’ll be updating this page and facebook regularly as we’re hopefully going to be planning events over the coming months but in the meantime please do dig deep as we have a high target to reach both in monetary terms as well as the 4985m summit.
It’s no walk in the park, well technically it is a walk in Mount Kenya National Park but over seven days we will be pushing ourselves physically, mentally and no doubt emotionally.
Every penny counts and we’ll be grateful for any donation.
Thank you for your support – we’re going to need it!
Many thanks and lots of love,
Kerry & Debs
