Story

We can't change lives, but we can help make a difference.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for visiting my sponsorship page.

In the past couple of years I have been through a rough patch in my personal life, but I have always had a very positive outlook on life and have somehow scrapped through with the help of my wonderful partner, family, friends, work colleagues and sheer determination. However there are others who are not that fortunate and I thought  it would be nice to give something back and with your help we could all make a small contribution in making a difference to those lives.

As challenges go I could have chosen to cycle around Windsor or do a bungee jump in brighton but considering our busy lives and other commitments this is not something one does on a regular basis, and as age and time is not in my favour I may not get another opportunity to do something "stupid " like this ever again so I have opted to go for one of the most difficult and ultimate challenges mentally and phisically .

Why 2009? I just turned 50  in January and right now I feel at my peak both mentally and physically. I have backing from my partner, my family, my workplace and with the support of my friends and work colleagues I am sure that I will be able to achieve this challenge which is what it is going to be, a real challenge.

On most days I will be trekking / climbing for anything between 8 - 10 hours , with some very steep ascends, rough terrain, altitude sickness due to high altitude (reaching a maximum of 5,647 metres or 18,527 feet) and extreme temperatures, combined with basic facilities, limited rations and water supply etc., (as all supplies for the entire 15 days are to be carried from Khatmandu). Sleeping on all but the 1st and final day will be in tents and sleeping bags, so although it is going to be hard work physically and mentally, I am sure the rewards and the satisfaction will compensate for it.

October 2009 is not far now and as I still have targets to meet in terms of fundraising. Apart from the challenge itself and my own initial contribution of £505.00 I still have had to consider an extensive kit list, medical, general wellbeing and a rigourous fitness and endurance regime all around a very long and busy working week, so I would appreciate all the help and support I can get with sponsorship and fundraising. Any suggestions and ideas will be welcome.
