Story
I’m running the GNR and raising funds and awareness for Anthony Nolan blood cancer and blood disorder charity in memory of Sam Dixon, I sadly never got to meet Sam but I am told regular stories of how incredible this young boy was and I’ve seen just how devastating Losing Sam has been for all who were in his life.
Here’s Amy’s story:
My son, Sam, was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 8. A 17-year-old male, who had registered with Anthony Nolan, selflessly donated his bone marrow to give our boy a chance to live. Unfortunately, Sam died in November 2019 at the age of 12, but we had an extra 4 years with him that we would not have had without the bone marrow transplant, the Anthony Nolan register and the young man who took the time to enroll. For many, a bone marrow transplant is the cure.
Sam was an amazing little boy who, despite everything, never felt sorry for himself. He was a huge nerd and loved comics. During his illness he created the superhero Bubbleboy based on his experience living in a sterile room after his bone marrow transplant. Sam was our real life superhero and the strength I will need to complete these challenges is nothing compared to the strength Sam demonstrated every day of his life.
Please support me in any way that you can. If you can, please sign up to the Anthony Nolan register, if you can't please encourage those that can.
Here is Amy’s page - she is doing 12 challenges through the year of 2022 and it has been a pleasure to join in the occasional one with a great team of humans!

Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
