Story
On October 2nd I will be competing for the second year running in the Challenge Adventure Charities cycling event. In a Team of four, I
will be covering 620 miles from Ouistreham to the top of Mont Ventoux. Our longest day will be 210 miles.
This year we are supporting The British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research and Demelza Hospice Care of Children. All three are fantastically worthwhile charities.
I am aiming to raise £1000, of which 100% will go directly to the chosen charities. My training is well underway so any support you can offer would be very much appreciated.
To give an idea on the scope of this challenge, our itinerary is as follows:
Wednesday 2
October: Ouistreham - Orleans (190 miles)
The Mont Ventoux Challenge will start from the Port, riding mainly on quiet country roads through the Normandy countryside to arrive for our first nights stop just south of Orleans.
Thursday 3
October: Orleans - Macon (210 miles)
Our longest day will need an early start to head South along the Loire valley before riding over the Charolais hills to Macon and the Rhone Valley.
Friday 4
October: Macon - Vaison- la-Romaine (200 miles)
Another long day in the saddle as we skirt around Lyon heading South along the Rhone Valley to Vaison-la-Romaine, in the shadow of Mont Ventoux.
Saturday 5
October: The ascent of Mont Ventoux!
Malaucene to the top of Mont Ventoux – just 18 miles but average gradient of 7.15% and max gradient of 10.9%.
