Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Diamond Kite Foundation is a wonderful charity set up by my friends with the following purpose:

To relieve the needs of young carers and their families through the provision of a respite holiday of a lifetime.

It is estimated that there are about 800,000 young carers in the UK. Being a young carer often means looking after a family member who is disabled, chronically ill or has a mental health condition. 27% of young carers aged 5-18 regularly miss time at school. These carers are often required to grow up far too early which can lead to them missing out on some of the same opportunities as other children. Many of these young carers are not only losing their childhood but they are all too often victims of bullying and exclusion which sadly, could in turn have a negative impact on their lives.

The Diamond Kite Foundation hopes to provide much needed respite for these young people with a chance of a holiday of a lifetime to Disney World in Florida, USA with other children experiencing the same things in their lives, provide an opportunity to make new friends and help them build a network of support.
