In these unprecedented times, the financial impact of Covid-19 on all charities throughout the country has been immense. The 2020 London Marathon, which I was fortunate enough to get a ballot place for would, on its own, have generated in excess of £50,000 for the charity I'm supporting.

      With the current restrictions in place, it was not possible to hold it in its traditional form on its deferred date, so it has been changed to a virtual event, to be completed within the 24 hours of 3rd October. Despite a total absence of training over the last 10 weeks due to a health issue, I intend to take part - even if I have to walk every step of the way!.        Why? Tenovus Cancer Care have experienced a massive downturn in their income as a consequence of CoVid19. Although the situation generally is slowly improving, fundraising is now more important than ever, especially when you take into account the fact that the next 'proper' London Marathon - the biggest fundraiser of the year for many charities - is not scheduled to take place for another 14 months ! So please donate whatever you can afford - every penny really will make a difference !

       The choice of charity is simple. Tenovus Cancer Care are a relatively small, Cardiff-based cancer charity. Small is definitely beautiful. In addition to providing a wide range of services, from counselling and advice to the innovative Sing With Us Choirs (and so many others in between), Tenovus also fund various research projects (they were heavily involved in the development of Tamoxifen, which is still the world's leading breast cancer treatment drug), and have recently launched the world's largest mobile cancer treatment unit. This unit will enable them to administer cancer treatment to even more people in their own communities, instead of patients having to spend hours travelling to and from hospitals at what is already an extremely stressful time. I have been involved with Tenovus for a number of years, and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that you couldn't meet a friendlier, more supportive, positive and uplifting bunch of people - both at the top, and throughout the organisation !
