6633 Arctic Ultra · 25 February 2022

The sole aim of London Retired Police Dogs Trust is to ensure that the dogs get the retirement that they deserve. We provide support for medical care and treatment, meaning their owners are not left with an agonising decision to make about the animals future due to financial concerns.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of you already know I am taking part in what is considered the coldest and hardest ultra race in the world. The race is called the 6633 Arctic Ultra. It is a 380 mile race from Canada which finish's up in the Arctic Circle.

I'll be taking part in the 120mile+ race. This means when I reach the 120 mile mark my work is complete. However if I feel comfortable (and have raised enough money) I can then attempt to complete the remaining 260 miles to achieve the full 380 miles. I'll be pulling all of my supplies in a sled/pulk along the route unaided. This has been considered one of the hardest races to complete in the world, across the harshest terrain in the world, battling extreme cold and fatigue.

I'll be flying out to Canada on the 19th February ready to be on the start-line of the race on the 255th February. Before this I'll be charting my training progress via a series of videos and statuses on social media.

I've chosen two charities close to my heart. London's Retired Police Dogs, who assist handlers with veterinary bills after retirement and Wales Air Ambulance. As many of you know I served as a police dog handler in a variety of specialisms for many years. These dogs bravely carry out their duties for a number of years before being retired to the handler. As soon as their service is finished all veterinary bills become the sole responsibility of the handler, with no support from the Police. As you can imagine some of these dogs suffer injuries during service which they then carry into retirement. These can be extremely costly to the handler who has formed a very tight bond with their working dog. These dogs have saved their handlers, other officers and members of the public from serious harm during their service so they deserve a happy, healthy and pain free retirement.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this page and please share far and wide. Any donation is gratefully received. All funds will go directly from this page to the dedicated charity.

Regards

Kevin
