Newport Walk for Dementia · 25 April 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Newport County AFC and Newport Live have joined forces to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society* with the second Newport Walk for Dementia.

As a director of County and vice-chair of Newport Live, I wanted to help raise money by doing something different for the event.

This year's event is virtual due to Covid restrictions and is dubbed Walk 3k Your Way. Details here: https://www.newport-county.co.uk/news/2021/march/newport-walk-for-dementia-is-back/

Myself and two of my sons - James and Joe - have decided to take the concept and give it a little twist. So we're doing 3 Do 3k Every Day throughout April.

Joe and I will be covering 3k a day around the riverfront in Newport, James lives in Prague and will be doing his daily 3k there.

Important note: They're running it; I'm walking it!!

The reasons for our fundraising are twofold - in memory of my Nan (the boy's Great Granny) Gladys 'Jo' Ward who suffered from this dreadful disease, and to get me out of my lockdown lethargy!

Thanks in advance to everyone who donates - we're really grateful for your help!

*Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
