Story

My 2017/18 challenge is now finished but my 2018/19 new challenge and fund raising has started, please visit and hopefully donate at :-

Below is what I wrote for my 2017/18 challenges, I am proud to say that I completed them all!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In November 2014 aged 49 I was given the news that I have effectively terminal prostate cancer and may only live as short as two years.

After the initial shock and emotion I came to realise that what life I still have is there for living. In the time that I have I believe that I have a duty to create the best memories I can for my family and friends whilst doing all I can to raise awareness and money from Prostate Cancer UK. This is so that my sons, brother, nephew, friends, colleagues your sons, fathers, brothers, you and the ladies who support you in any way do not have to go through or witness a man dying of this indiscriminate disease.

So for 2018, I have set myself a challenge of completing the Likeys Yukon 6633 Ultra, 120  miles non stop pulling a sledge across the Arctic in temperatures that were -30c  and I have now finished 2nd place in that race and then 2 weeks later early April I went to the Sahara to compete in the Marathon Des Sables for a third time. That's another 250k carrying all your supplies for the week on your back where the temperature exceeds 50c (hence the degrees of separation).

I don't believe that this has ever been done before by someone with T4 cancer and I am delighted that I managed both the 6633 and MDS.

Since then however I did 7 marathons in 7 business days with 130 colleagues who all walked a day each with me and then nailed Al Andalus, 230k in the heat of Spain in July. Last year this race beat me but this time I had a better attitude and will power that got me through.

I have a 50k race on 18th August in the UK for a change and then the final event of this "fundraising year", a 230 k race in Albania with 8,000 meters of climb. It will definitely be a tough one to end on.

I always try my best to do every race I have entered and in 4 years now two have beaten me and that is possible again so that does mean that if I cant complete a race you may end up "Just Giving" but trust that you will believe that if its humanly possible for me to do it , I will.

Watch out for my new running year starting in October 2018!!

I have already had a year longer in my life than I expected 3 years ago thanks to research and improvements in cancer medicine and hope that you feel able to fund and accelerate further research stopping prostate cancer being a killer forever. For families the world over.

I have paid all my costs to these events so everything that you donate will go to Prostate Cancer UK.

1 in 8 men in the UK will get prostate cancer, its the biggest male cancer and a man dies every 45 minutes of it. Prostate cancer wont stop being a killer unless we all help make it so.

I write a blog about running, my life and cancer and send by email, if I can see your email address on the donation I will add you to the list but if you chose not to put it on this site but want to receive my  personal blog from me  please email kev@makethemostof.it and I will add you to the list.

Thank you

Kev
