Hello, my name is Kevin and I will be turning 60 years young this year - though I'm told it is the new 50!
I enjoy swimming, cycling , running and have decided to celebrate my 60th birthday year by setting myself a series of challenges, whilst fund raising for 2 charities.
In my younger days i competed in road and cross country events; 10k, Half Marathons and was lucky enough to run the 1987 London Marathon.
Since re lacing my trainers in 2015 I have completed several Triathlons, Raced at 10k and half marathons, I was also fortunate that 30 years on I gained entry and finished the 2017 London marathon. All this while losing 5 stone in weight. i have inspired and now enjoy helping people with their own battles to get fit.
The charities i have chosen to benefit from the proceeds of the fund raising are Mencap in Kirklees and The Stroke Association.
Mencap In Kirklees are a small hard working and relatively unknown charity. Formed in 1946 by parents supporting each other and running activities for their own "mentally Handicapped " children as they were called back then. Over the years the charity has grown with a small number of staff, and volunteers who still play a major part in its survival. Working with people of all ages with learning disabilities, enabling them to lead full and purposeful lives. Help me raise the profile of this unknown charity and support the services they provide in our community.
My 2nd charity the Stroke Association, a larger charity whom we all hope will never have to rely on. But, back in August 2018 my friend and dear brother in law BRIAN SENIOR suffered a stroke. Brian was very well looked after by the Calderdale Hospital stroke department and he made enough recovery to be let home. Unfortunately just days later he suffered another stoke and was re admitted to Hospital. The stroke association played a huge part in supporting and making Brian and his family comfortable through this terrible ordeal. Unfortunately we lost Brian. we as a family would like to show our appreciation of the support and hard work these guys gave us.
My challenges (so far) for 2019 include:
30th January — Kev’s Hi Vis Fun Run - you are welcome to join in :)
3rd February — Dewsbury 10k
20th May — Outlaw Half Triathlon - Nottingham
14th July - Full Ironman UK Triathlon - Bolton, Consisting of 2.4M Swim 112M Cycle and a 26.2M Run. Your support would be truly appreciated.
8th September — Great North Run - This iconic televised event has always been on my wish list and I am proud to be teaming up with other runners supporting Mencap in Kirklees.
13th October - Last event of the year is Manchester Half Marathon, a nice easy flat course in rainy city.
Please consider supporting me in my mission to make a difference throughout 2019.
THANK YOU
