Richmond RUNFEST Kew Gardens 10K 2021 · 11 September 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Anyone who knows me, will also know that I am somewhat of a lazy exercise shirker. I live an extremely sedentary lifestyle, full of junk food, always with the 'but muh MSc dissertation tho' as an excuse not to do any exercise whatsoever and eat crap all day.

I finished the 'Couch to 5k' programme and then kinda went 'well that's that then' and never really picked it up again? I've been going through a lot in my personal life and when I saw the Kew Gardens 10k advertised, I remembered how good running made me feel (afterwards obviously, bloody hate running when I'm actually doing it) and it spurred me on to sign up for the race. Kew Gardens is one of my favourite places in the world and I already know I can run 5k, so I may as well push myself and go for the 10k ;)

I decided I was going to dedicate my run to and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, as dementia has personally affected my family. It's a devastating disease and I want to help play a small part in helping to find a cure, as well as ensuring that those currently suffering with dementia are supported and cared for with the dignity and respect that they deserve.
