Salaam all. My family and I have pledged to raise £5,000 towards building a community led initiative - ‘Madina Square’ in Sylhet, Bangladesh with the help of Salam Charity. This is after hearing heart wrenching stories about poverty stricken people including children who are being exploited and abused. The community village will provide a safe haven for them with love, food, housing, healthcare and education.

At the centre of the village will be a brand-new mosque and Islamic Academy. To ensure that the Madina Villagers can lead themselves out of poverty, the charity will provide affordable housing to hundreds of people living on the poverty line.

The central point of the village will be a brand-new mosque and academy providing free or low cost (means based) education to thousands of poverty stricken children in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The ambitious project will also build a block of flats that will be rented at low cost to people living on the bread line, this creates sustainability for the village and will ensure that the villagers can keep themselves out of hardship.

Stage 1 of the project is complete. The project is now on Stage 2 which is to build the library section, mosque, playground and academy which includes Islamic knowledge, traditional and vocational learning and skills that would later enable villagers to stand on their own two feet.

My pledge is specifically for the library that consists of 4 rooms: Main Library, Computer room, vocational training room and meeting room. It will have the following features:
•    Designed to be a digital and modern library
•    Build children’s confidence in the modern online world
•    Will contain 10,000 books – Both Islamic and traditional schooling
•    Working space for 40 students
•    Computer room with 10 computers
•    Wi-Fi capabilities installed
•    Vocational training room with 10 sewing machines
•    Library books and courses available to local people
•    Links with the local community to utilise this free space
