Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Kids 1st Low Fell JustGiving page for Brain Tumour Research.
11 of our nursery staff have decided to walk 10.4 miles from Low Fell to Tynemouth Priory to
show our support for a very special daddy called Scott, whose little boy Ollie
attends Kids 1st Low Fell. His wife Debbie tells his story:
‘Scott was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2008 after collapsing during the Great North Run. After brain surgery, we were given the devastating news that the tumour was a high grade tumour. After months of gruelling chemotherapy and lots of uncertainty, we decided to tie the knot and live life to the full. Ollie was then born and we enjoyed every moment of him and then in 2013 we were ecstatic to find we were having a new baby and we were the happiest we could be. However after a routine brain scan we were told that Scott’s tumour had returned so he had further surgery followed by another 9 months of chemotherapy. Our beautiful daughter Evalyn arrived safe and sound 2 days after Scott’s chemotherapy ended. When Evalyn was 1 month old Scott was told that he had 3 new tumours growing and this time they could not be operated on. However, desperate to be with his family, Scott endured further chemotherapy which initially made him feel better and we saw some signs of improvement. In October this year Scott started to feel unwell again and we requested a scan. A new tumour was detected which is resistant to chemotherapy. We were told that there is no further treatment that Scott can receive and naturally we are devastated. My husband is the most loving selfless man, a fantastic husband and father. We realise time is running out so this year we are hoping to have a magical Christmas with our little family all together!
Brain tumours are the biggest killer of under 40’s, yet brain tumour research receives less than 1% of all funds raised therefore I hope you will be able to help Kids 1st in this very special fundraiser; a one that is so close to our family’s heart. Thank you for taking the time to read Scott’s story’ – Debbie Sutcliffe
