Story

The challenge: Run 50km solo and self-supported on the 15th March at a pace of 10km/h (6:00 min/km).

My hope: to bring awareness to the importance of nature in our cities.

As a country boy, I appreciate seeing trees around the centre of Liverpool more than anything. Every day in the UK, around 50 urban trees are lost due to ageing, disease, or development.

Heres some crazy stats from Trees for cities about how important trees are to our health within urban areas:

-Each year trees in London remove 2,400,000 tonnes of air pollution.

-A single mature, leafy tree can absorb up to 450 litres of water through its roots every day and reduce flood risk in cities.

-The overall cooling effect of a single tree is on average equivalent to 10 air conditioning units running for 20 hours in a day. This cooling helps against the urban heat which can cause temperatures in a city to be 7 degrees higher on average than in the surrounding areas.

It is my belief that everyone should have access to nature and Trees for Cities are the only UK charity working nationally and internationally to improve lives through planting trees where they are most needed, cities.

My preparation and progress over the next few weeks will be recorded on this page before I take on 50km.

Thanks for your support x
