Story
We would like your help to raise £10,000 for a fantastic charity called the Mango Tree Orphan Support Programme. We're going to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. All you have to do is sponsor us. Here's why we think it's important...
The Mango Tree supports over 10,000 children orphaned by AIDS in Tanzania and Kenya. A fundamental pillar of African society has always been the duty of the extended family to support any members of the household in need of help. However, families across the region, already struggling under the burden of persistent poverty, are unable to support children who have lost one or both parents to AIDS.
The money we raise will make it possible for children to be cared for by their extended families. It will fund education and practical training, giving them a means of generating income and creating a sustainable life for themselves.
The other brilliant thing about The Mango Tree is that the charity incurs no costs at all for its fundraising and administrative activities in the UK. Instead it has volunteers in every village to help focus on the orphans with the greatest needs and reduce overheads in Tanzania in the process.
