We support Ifakara families affected by HIV/AIDS & Malaria. Not only have families lost children to malaria, those affected by HIV/AIDS are still facing discrimination, prejudice & stigma. We work with local people in the following areas: Health and Education

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Basically, a friend and I decided when some cheap flights appeared a couple of months ago that we would go tackle a big hill in Africa for some fun. Having done some research (only after booking our guide), it would seem that scaling Mount Kilimanjaro is actually a bit of a task!

I decided that it would be good to give something back to the country that is going to have to deal with us come Easter and so chose Child Aid Tanzania. They do some fantastic work for underprivileged children in the areas of education and health. Both of these areas mean a lot to me - particularly fair and accessible education for girls.

During 2010 alone, about 68,000 pupils dropped out of primary schools and 66,000 students left secondary school early. In the same year, over 7000 girls dropped out of primary and secondary schools due to pregnancy. Even though primary school in Tanzania is free from the ages of 7 to 12 for classes’ standards 1 to 4, many children do not attend due to a number of reasons including: poverty- not being able to afford uniforms and learning supplies, traditional practices bias against girls' education, being expected to carry out house hold and family chores and living too far away.

There is still a lot of potential to empower Tanzanian children and adolescents, helping them to attain the education necessary to break the cycle of poverty.

If you could spare a couple of quid towards our mission I, and the team at Child Aid Tanzania, would be super grateful. As an example of what your donation could help with:

  • £2.50 buys a child a pair of school shoes
  • £2.50 buys a set of exercise writing books
  • £2.00 buys a pencil case complete with pens, pencils, erasers, sharpener and ruler.
  • £20 buys a child’s uniform for a year
  • £50 buys a desk & bench for two children
  • £150 buys a teachers black board, desk & chair

It's important to note that I am self funding this trip so 100% of your donation will make it to Child Aid Tanzania.
