TORBAY LIFEBOAT CREW KILIMANJARO CHALLENGE 2023 - HELP US RAISE THE FLAG
see video link https://youtu.be/6LlukIBs_G8
Not many things strike terror into our crew as much as this challenge. However, several have taken up the gauntlet and on 22nd May they will voluntarily launch themselves out of a working aeroplane at 15,000 feet above Dunkeswell airfield.
As it is our inaugural event, we are planning a small ceremony in which we will unveil and hand over the ‘Kilimanjaro flag’ into the safekeeping of team-leader Darryl Farley, who will carry it on his jump and subsequently hand it on at the start of the next challenge.
Drinks will be shared with our jumpers following their safe return to Mother Earth, and supporters from the public are welcome to attend. We anticipate jumping over lunchtime from 1:00pm but won’t be certain of our exact slots until the day itself. Any updates will be posted on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as a report after the event.
Our jumpers include Darryl Farley (team leader), Ian ‘Barney’ Barnaby, Niall ‘Wingman’ Blatcher, Ron Campion, Bruce Graham-Cook, Ellie Walker, Christopher Jackson, Roger Good, Stuart White.
Darryl’s comment on the event; ‘It is an honour to be the team leader of this the first of our Kilimanjaro Challenges. I just hope the boys jumping will retain the natural poise and nonchalance that we’re used to seeing, as they head up to 15,000 feet… and as they head down’.
Watch our video as our most experienced airman Bruce, an ex fighter-jet pilot, tries to bravely explain how he’s never jumped out of an aeroplane before.
