Sands is the charity speaking up about pregnancy and baby loss, saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families. Together, we are saving babies’ lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Story

Most parents can imagine the excitement of being pregnant, the sheer joy and happiness of discovering you will have a son or daughter to add to your family. Because it has happened to them. Most parents can relate to the constant chatter about pregnancy and bump shape and size and chat about names picked. Because it has happened to them. Most parents will recall the list of baby products they had to pick and buy, the adorable cots, the sweet smelling lotions, the cute tiny nappies. Because it's happened to them. But what most parents will not know (thankfully) is when your world comes crashing down in a second, when you hear the words "there is no heartbeat". What most mums won't know is having to go through a labour and give birth to your baby who makes no noise. The midwives were so, so quiet and the heartbreaking pain on my husband's face as he cut the cord and held our lifeless son I will never forget. What most mums won't know is the heartbreaking moment of skin to skin contact of baby and parent but the baby is not moving. Blake looked so perfect. He was beautiful. He was our firstborn and is as much part of our family as he can be. Losing him has been life-changing and has affected many aspects of our mental and physical health. Each year I take part in a fundraising event to raise money for the stillbirth and neonatal death charity SANDS. The Charity's work is invaluable to so many bereaved families, offering emotional and practical support to families, works in partnership with health professionals to ensure bereaved parents get the best possible care. Please consider making a donation to this fantastic charity, in memory of Blake and all the other babies gone too soon. Thank you.
