I'm taking part in the 2009 Great North Run on Sunday 20th September and will be raising money for Alzheimer's Society.  Bupa will fund match any money I raise, which is fantastic.  This is my second Great North and last year I raised approx £1,300 for Cancer Research.  I intend to enjoy the day, listen to the bands along the way, end up crying a some of the messages on other runners' t-shirts, and definitely finish ahead of the man in the diving suit.
