Story
I am very keen to do something to support Wales Air Ambulance as the Air Ambulance has been of immense significance to our family this past year.
At the end of October 2018, my husband was in a cycling accident in Yorkshire. He was cycling down a hill early one morning on a small country road when he hit some frost and leaves. His bike went out of control and he crashed headfirst into a stone wall on the side of the road. A kind passersby stopped a minute later and took care of him while calling an ambulance. He was soon attended to by Air Ambulance personnel and flown to Leeds Infirmary. He had suffered a broken bone in his skull, three broken vertebrae in his neck and back, several broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
A few days later he underwent surgery to cage the broken vertebra at the base of his skull, and spent almost two weeks in hospital. Fortunately he had not sustained any serious head injury because he was wearing a helmet. Nor did he suffer any paralysis. This is because of the air ambulance workers on the scene, and the care with which he was transported to hospital.
Ten months on, he has almost completely recovered from the accident. He has returned to work, and is also slowly returning to his favourite activity, which is cycling. I am so thankful for his recovery that words cannot express it.
I know that it was Yorkshire Air ambulance that helped save my husband’s life, but as we live in Wales I want to support Wales Air Ambulance in the hope that my contribution can go towards saving someone else’s life.
Wales Air Ambulance Charity is funded by the people of Wales and requires £6.5 million a year to keep its four helicopters in the sky, serving Wales and saving lives.
