Story
We are a group of Year 5 children who attend Charborough Road Primary School in Filton, Bristol, UK. With everything that is happening in the world at the moment, we wanted to do something to show our support for children who are suffering.
As a class we are reading A Long Walk to Water, which tells the story of Salva Dut, who walked thousands of miles to escape the Sudanese Civil War in the 1980/90s. At one point, he led a group of thousands of boys from a refugee camp in Ethiopia to safety in Kenya. They walked for hundreds of miles through deserts and danger to find a safe place to rest.
Even though this book is set many years ago, millions of children still have to leave their homes due to wars every day. We wanted to support any refugees who are forced to flee their homes and any other children who are unsafe or do not have the things they need. Save the Children work to support children all over the world to keep them safe, healthy and learning.
We are all going to walk at least one mile every day in March to show solidarity for everyone who is walking to safety and freedom now and any children who have been affected by disasters. We hope that together we will be able to walk over one thousand miles and raise £1000 for Save the Children!
