Story
Jamie, Jodie, Torres, Edwina, Yvette and McGregor Family have decided to run Edinburgh Marathon and Half Marathon on 28th May 2023.
In memory of Addy for the Epilepsy Society to try and turn such a tragic event into something positive and to help with the process of grieving.
On the 16th November 2022 we experienced an extremely tragic event on our Kingston Hill halls project when one of our residents Addy Ganguli, sadly passed away further to an underlying health issue. Jodie our Residence Life Manager, was the first staff member on the scene when Jamie raised the alarm that Addy was in distress, she carried out first aid and administered CPR, and carried on doing so until the ambulance service arrived. Unfortunately, and in spite of everyone’s best efforts, they were unable to save Addy. As you can imagine, a situation like this is extremely traumatic and is a reminder of how fragile life is.
KINGSTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT - Jamie's Story:
Addy was one of my closest friends here at Kingston University and I was living in the same flat as Addy. We saw each other everyday, both have shared the happiest memories here together and he will forever be in my memory.
I was with Addy when he died. His last hours alive were in my room producing music, which we loved! He had a relaxed end to a bright and meaningful life. Addy has projected so much positivity on me before and after his passing. He was always in the brightest of moods and never took a day of his life for granted. I will take away as many attributes of him as possible, he will forever be with me.
Edinburgh Marathon will be my first marathon and I am aiming for a sub 4 hour time.
KINGSTON UNIVERSITY STUDENT - Torres' Story :
Addy was one of the kindest people you could meet! When I first met Addy he instantly made me feel welcome to this country and became one of my greatest friends! I was lucky enough to live with Addy in the same flat at Kingston University. He was always filled with joy.
Edinburgh Marathon is my first marathon, I am aiming just to complete it as I am usually more into my strength and conditioning at the gym rather than running.
EQUANS EMPLOYEE - Jodie's Story:
I am the Residence Life Manager at the Kingston Halls University contract. I was the first on the scene when the alarm that Addy was in distress was raised, and administered first aid and CPR, and carried on doing so until the ambulance service arrived. I stayed with Addy until the very end, however in spite of the emergencies services best efforts we were unable to save him. This event will stay with me for the rest of my life. I am hoping that training for Edinburgh will help myself and the students involved process the sad loss of losing Addy.
Edinburgh marathon is not my first marathon, I did the London Marathon back in 2019. I won't be very fast ( I have a condition called cerebral palsy which effects my muscles)
Edwina and Yvette's Story
Edwina regularly runs with Jodie in the Ealing Eagles Running Club and has been persuaded to run the Edinburgh Marathon in May. This is her first and only marathon (apparently). Edwina is a regular 10k runner and will be doing her first half in early spring in preparation for the marathon.
Yvette is an ultra marathon runner and will be providing support and guidance to the group from her wealth of experience. She will be taking part in all 3 races of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival: 5k,10k, full marathon. This is nothing when you can run 150 miles in one go!
Both Edwina and Yvette have seen the impact that this event has had! They are hoping that raising money for the Epilepsy Society will be able to help change peoples life's and hopefully be able to save someone's life.
The McGregor Family
In November last year, our son Jamie’s friend and flat mate at Kingston University, Addy, suffered an epileptic fit whilst in his company and, despite the best efforts of Jamie and the Hall’s of Residence staff and emergency services, he sadly passed away.
Jamie plus others involved in this traumatic event are running the Edinburgh Marathon on 28 May in their friend’s honour and to raise funds for the Epilepsy Society.
In family solidarity, Sarah McGregor , Kathryn Mcgregor and Colin are running the half marathon.
We, Jamie and his fellow runners would very much appreciate your support in raising funds for the Epilepsy Society.
