On the 15th May 2021 a group of hardy shinty boys will be putting their mountaineering skills to the test by taking on a gruelling 9 Munro challenge in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and Kinlochshiel shinty club. 

Not content with the 7 Munros of the South Shiel ridge, the boys will then ascend another 2 before their day is done. 

Starting at Cluanie Inn they will begin the ascent by climbing to 947m to traverse the ridge containing 7 Munros: Creag a'Mhaim (947m), Druim Shionnach (987m), Aonach air Chrith (1021m), Maol Chinn-dearg (981m), Sgurr an Doire Leathain (1010m), Sgurr an Lochain (1004m), Creag nan Damh (918m).  Upon reaching the west end of the ridge the boys will then tackle Sgurr na Sgine (946m) and  finish their day on the forcan ridge(the saddle) (1010m) before beginning their descent into Achnagart. 

The Shiel boys will cover a distance of 42km or 26miles and ascend a total of around 9000 feet. Their mountain guide predicts it will take around 15 hours to complete, although obviously the Shiel boys think they will do it faster!
