Ramadan - The Big Dinner · 15 May 2018

The purpose of the National Algerian Centre's Ramadan campaign is to connect Algerians with their community and for non-Algerians to experience a sense of the Algerian culture and foods.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Since 2011 the National Algerian Centre has been feeding the Algerian community every month of Ramadan in London. This year Ramadan starts on the 15th of May and we want to ensure that we have sufficient funds to feed as many people as possible due to the growing demands and popularity over the years. In previous years the National Algerian Centre have fed an average of 130 people per day at the centre where we operate in South Kilburn, London. We invite anyone from any background to join us in this blessed month to embrace Algerian food and become part of our community spirit. The essential aim of this project is to create social cohesion being one of the National Algerian Centre's most prominent aims. Chefs prepare fresh Algerian food for the community to break their fasts with. The atmosphere has been described as both 'inviting' and 'delightful' and many have returned to join our daily dinner. We have received praise from Brent Council and various media outlets have kindly supported our work. This year we turn to the community itself to support us as the project has grown tremendously since its introduction in 2011.

We spend approximately £3 per person who attends the dinner and provide a starter (usually Algerian chorba with bourek), a main course which varies from day-to-day and a dessert with mint tea.
