Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
- Every 10 seconds, Samaritans respond to a call for help. No judgement. No pressure. They are there for anyone who needs someone.
- Every £5 raised has the power to answer a potentially life-changing call enabling people to find the strength to keep going.
- Samaritans are the only charity that is there for anyone struggling to cope, day or night, 365 days a year. They do this over the phone, via emails and letters, and face-to-face in their 200+ branches across the UK.
- This is all thanks to the 20,000 amazing volunteers, of all ages, from all walks of life, who give their time for free– just to be there for someone when they need it most.
- £48 is enough to train and support 1 existing listening volunteer for an entire year.
- Samaritans are at the heart of local communities too, working with schools, workplaces, railways, prisons and hospitals to offer training and support, prevent suicide and help people turn their lives around.
- They also undertake research into suicide, alongside leading academics, and campaigns to get suicide prevention the attention and resources it deserves.
- 805 people took their own life in Scotland in 2020 with the female suicide rate increasing by 9.2% since 2019. In addition to the services Samaritans provide, an important part of their work is understanding and challenging the social elements that impact suicide.
