Verity is a self help group set up in 1997 to help women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The charity is completely self funded and is the only national charity for women with PCOS. PCOS affects millions of women in the UK and worldwide (approximately 5-10 per cent) .

Story

Hi all,

As some of you will know, I am going to be walking up Snowdon in less than 3 weeks’ time on 3rd August.

I know this is really short notice, but I have decided to use it as an opportunity to raise money for charity. I have chosen Verity, a UK based PCOS charity.

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a condition experienced by 1 in 5 women in the UK and is one of the leading causes of infertility in women.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago and have struggled to manage it ever since then. One of the symptoms of PCOS is excessive weight gain and difficulty losing weight. This often leads to a vicious cycle, as being overweight makes the symptoms of PCOS. Over the last year, through drastically changing my diet and lifestyle I have been able to lose 4 1/2 stone and have managed to reduce or completely reverse a lot of my symptoms of PCOS.

Walking up Snowdon is a real challenge for me (for many reasons) but I would never have been able to do it had I not lost so much weight and gotten fitter. I feel like this is a real testament to how far I have come just in the last year.

For this reason, I want to use this walk to raise money and awareness for this cause.

As I said, I know it’s short notice, but whatever you can give, I’d really appreciate your support. And if you can’t give financially, feel free to support me with encouraging words. As the day gets ever closer I become more and more aware of just how high Snowdon actually is!

Thanks!
