Great North Run 2022 · 11 September 2022 ·

Formerly Alexa’s Animals, we are an established dog charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs in our local area. We work closely with local authorities, vets, and other dog rescues. We aim to find the most suitable owners. We have placed over 2000 dogs into caring homes.

Story

I need a bit of help here guys!

2 months until the GNR and i went for my first training run yesterday (July 8th)... I could barely run a mile!! Need to go from zero to hero in 2 months time, and i need some motivation! Even just a couple of quid will make a huge difference collectively, get me off the couch and spur me on to success.

Why Northumberland Dog Recue? Well, it's a brilliant charity working on behalf of dogs that have been abandoned usually through no fault of their own and ended up in the kennels for rehoming. Maybe their owners may have sadly passed away, or they were bought during lockdown and are now surplus to requirement, maybe they have behavioural issues because no-one taught them how to live politely in a human world, or potentially the owner's curcumstances changed drastically and they couldn't work the dog into their situation anymore. There are many many reasons they have ended up needing rehoming and it seems to me it is almost never the dog's fault. It's a really worthy cause, it's local to me and i have a lot of personal connections to the charity so it is close to my heart.

I'm also running in memory of my beautiful lurcher Lucy who was adopted from this charity and was unfortunately taken far too soon. She suffered a fatal heart attck on the beach at 16 months old - very rare and very very sad. Wish she could run it with me (i'd certainly complete it much more quickly). RIP Lucy!
