50th Anniversary London - Paris Bike Ride · 6 September 2012 to 9 September 2012 ·

Established in 1962 as the relief arm of Amnesty International, we are a separate charity and the only UK agency providing practical and financial support specifically to prisoners of conscience, individuals who have been persecuted for protecting and advancing human rights.

Story

I will be cycling a whopping 170 miles over 4 days to raise money for this small charity which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

PoC has just 4 staff members and overheads are low so the money you donate will go directly to prisoners of conscience – people who have made a stand for what they believe in and been persecuted because of it.  We have helped journalists, doctors, teachers, lawyers, scientists and film-makers, to name but a few.  We are currently assessing applications for post-graduate study grants and have applicants from Iran, Eritrea, Congo, Zimbabwe and Sudan - most of whom ran into trouble with the authorities in their countries as a result of the criticisms they have made of the regimes they live under.

The last sponsorship event that I participated in was 10 years ago when I ran to raise funds for Trees for Cities.... so it's not as if I make a habit of badgering anyone for money, please make this easy for me!.

Thanks
