Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
‘Kanzi’ meaning Hidden Treasure in Kiswahili, aims to discover potential in children of Kibera through the support of existing Kibera schools, assisting with resources, food and buildings. They accomplish this through empowering the community and networking with local people. Most of the children & communities come from the slums, which is their home, yet the government at anytime, any hour, 24/7 can come WITHOUT notice & bulldoze these peoples homes/lives/security down, all gone within minutes. The kids that attend the school also receive a meal each day, which is a big thing considering if they were at home (in the slums) they could go for a few days without any meal.
I guess the reason I love this is because, the charity don’t just run in, try & fix a problem & run back out. They have helpt organise a sustaining programme for this community. It reminds me of what Oasis (who I currently work for) are striving to create in many different hubs in the UK, a place were yes there are schools & provision for the children, but a hub is a place that provides for those children’s families, from their mum, to their auntie, to their grannies best friend & this I believe is how community is built, meeting the local peoples needs, whether it be through food provision, educational, medical or simply just someone to talk too.
Now I’m no expert in community, but the last year being in Salford has made me realise how important it is, not only is it good to have like minded (& not so like minded) people around you, but when you succeed how great is it to share with others & the same when you fail. How great is it to enlighten someone about you/your beliefs/your life or something you find interesting & to just feel connected!
So let me get down to the nitty gritty, Kanzi Kibera has offered me an opportunity to go to Kibera at the end of August for 10 days & I have jumped at the chance. I am setting myself a challenge to raise £2000 (not for me, well a little for me to be able to go) but £1,300 for Kanzi Kibera & £700 for me.
If I don’t make enough for me to go, I wont go, but I am dedicating myself to Kanzi Kibera as a charity because I feel its important.
When I was first told about this charity my heart jumped a little (as I said before), Imagine telling the most disadvantaged children that they are TREASURED & giving them a chance to become those future leaders who can help change their own country, its amazing, its defiant in a country who’s poor population is on such a grand scale that helping those in need is just going against the grain! Rich people strive in that country, where as these people are just trying to survive!
if you would like to know more information on this, please don’t hesitate to ring me (if you have my number), email me, facebook me or visit the website. & If you feel like you would be happy enough to spare a few pounds please do (I will leave a trusted website were you can donate, down below) If each of my friends on facebook donated £1, I would raise £483 (WOW)….Thank you for taking the time to read this, sorry if it was a tad boring! I just wanted to write this post to educate people on something amazing that’s happening, even if you pray or send positive vibes our way, I would be extremely grateful!! x
