Kirsty  and an indoor rowing buddy Derrick Towell will be rowing together and hope to set a new British Record for the 100K tandem mixed (30-39).

Between Friday 18th May and Sunday 20th May 2018, the charity event, Row For It, will be back in Touchwood Shopping Centre, Solihull for its 6th year. When more than 50 rowers will take on team and individual indoor rowing challenges including 10K, half-marathon, full marathon and the staggering ultra-distance of 100k, to raise vital funds and awareness for The Brain Tumour Charity, Europe’s leading brain tumour charity.

Now in its 6thyear, ‘Row for it’ was founded by Ann Atkins, who was inspired by her daughter, Iona, who has been living with a brain tumour since the age of 5. The money raised for Row For it 2018, will take the overall total for Row For It as an event to over £100,000!

In just 3-days, over a million meters will be rowed by rowers which include complete novices, those suffering from Brain Tumours, relatives and friends affected by the cause and champion rowers rowing side-by-side. Numerous World and British records are planning to be set together with personal bests for others, but, for every rower it is an amazing accomplishment and a step nearer to defeating brain tumours.

Over 10,600 people are diagnosed each year with a primary brain tumour – that's 29 people every day. Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 20 years – the highest of any cancer and just 19% of adults will survive for five years after diagnosis. Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. However, despite these horrendous facts, less than 2% of the £498 million invested in cancer research funding in the UK in 2014 was spent on brain tumours.
