A Marathon and a Half! · 14 April 2019

We work with some of South Yorkshire's most vulnerable and resilient women and children. They may have experienced homelessness, financial hardship, domestic abuse and relationship breakdowns. We offer a safe place to live, compassion, partnerships, understanding and professional services.

Story

After running a few half marathons and completing a 26 mile hike last year I decided for my next challenge I would run a full marathon.  I signed up for Manchester because unlike London you can get straight in, and it's the flattest marathon course in the UK.

Manchester Marathon Sunday 7th April 2019

I started training in January after celebrating my 40th birthday in style and although I am not the fastest runner I'm confident I'll get round.

This International Women's Day I decided to use my personal goals to raise money for YWCA Yorkshire.  I've had the privilege of seeing the good work they do in my local area.  They support young mums through difficult times when they would otherwise have nothing, and empower them to look after themselves and their children.

Supporting this cause will go towards providing real practical help to young women who want to give their children the best start in life.

YWCA Yorkshire's mission is to create a better future for women, children & families. We believe that young women, children and families deserve the very best opportunity to thrive, prosper and reach their full potential. Through a range of accommodation and support services, we seek to empower young women to live independent, happy and fulfilled lives; to take responsibility for their own futures and overcome some of the obstacles that have prevented them from moving forward positively.
